The independent music hustle of the Bay Area crossed with the 24/7 grind of Reno, NV has created Hip Hop artist Shorty T the Gator, who has made it his mission to bring the musical spotlight back to the West Coast. His lyrical flow crossed with an all too real background in the streets has audiences across the United States seeking out his music, as well as led to his recent signing with Universal Music. Shorty T has sunk his teeth into the hip-hop industry and just like his gator namesake, he will not let go until his chosen prey (the music industry) allows him to put his coast on the map.
Born in Oakland, CA but raised in Reno, NV - Shorty T grew up surrounded by a wide range of musical influences including West Coast legends E-40, Too Short, and MC Hammer. At a early age while his love for music began to grow Shorty also found himself thrown into a life of running the streets that saw him in constant trouble with the law as well as living a life that many of his fellow hip hop artists could only rap about. When asked about his early life in the streets, Shorty says; “Growing up I had to do what I had too in order to ensure my people and I could eat and I wouldn’t change any of the choices I made. Those days in the streets also gave me a lifetime of real life stories that I translate into lyrics and put into my songs.” As he grew older and began to take music more seriously he entered the studio and began to put his life stories into songs and recorded and released his debut solo album “Survival Of The True.” This project was met with amazing reviews from both people who knew Shorty growing up and the newfound fans he created while pushing his music in the streets.
With the release of “Survival Of The True” Shorty T began to gain a great following in Reno and began to be courted to perform alongside childhood icons of his such as E-40, The Luniz, C-BO, Too Short, Snoop Dogg and more. Shorty’s buzz in Reno continued to build and he returned to the studio and over the course of the next few years to present he recorded and released a impressive three full length albums and 4 mix tapes. Each release led to Shorty’s buzz growing across the United States and besides him being chosen to perform alongside even more national recording artists he was also offered a distribution deal by Entertainment powerhouse Universal Music. Through this new deal Shorty T will be releasing three new singles as well as his highly anticipated new solo album.
With the backing of an international entertainment powerhouse in Universal and the support of both the Bay Area and Reno, Shorty T has sunk his teeth into the music industry. With a musical feeding frenzy in the works it is no secret he is bringing the spotlight back to the West Coast.
